Hebrew University - Department of Yiddish

From the website:

"The Hebrew University 's Department of Yiddish is the largest and only independent academic unit of this kind in the world. Since its establishment in 1951, it has devoted itself to the study of the history of the Yiddish language from its beginnings 1,000 years ago, to Yiddish literature and to Jewish culture as reflected in this particular Jewish language. The Department is engaged in several large projects: a series of textbooks in Yiddish literature; a series of monographs on various aspects of Yiddish language, literature and folklore; a descriptive bibliography of Yiddish printed books from the middle of the 16th century until the middle of the 18th century; a series of textbooks for learning Yiddish; and a comprehensive survey of Yiddish periodical publications from the 1860s to the Holocaust."
